You may recall from last month's challenge that the purpose of this challenge group was to take our scrapbooking to the next level, to stretch our creative process and to grow as artists by embracing challenges that make us think, work and grow. You can see last month's challenge on my blog here.
Since the start of a new year often prompts us to look back and ahead, we thought we would do the same creatively. This month we were challenged to look back over the last year and share with you some of the designs that reflect some growth or success in our process.
What I have realized about my scrapping, and card making for that matter, is that this past year I have finally defined my style. I have dabbled with many things over the years CAS, a bit of Vintage, etc. but what I have come to realize what is really 'me' can be defined with layers, sewing, unsymmetrical, clustering, imperfect... I like my items to look like they were casually placed down with not a lot of ryme or reason. I have also grown to really love the negative die cuts lately. This my growth this year has been in definining, and being happy with, my style and incorporating more of the 'on trend' fashions. In going back over the year to show you some of my favorite layouts that demonstrate my growth I discovered that many of them have been picked up for publication (yay!) so I am showing you the 'rest of the best' today.
(layers, negative die cut, haphazard snowflakes and twine)
(unsymmetrical, banners, stamping, die cuts, splattering)
(clustering, layers)
(being trendy: sunburst, long title, inking)
(clustering)
(unsymmetrical, layers)
(asymmetrical, clustering,titling)
(clustering, layers, die cuts)
(haphazard scattering, sewing, messy thread, die cut)
(more than one photo, clusters, messy stitching/thread), die cuts)
Beautiful work Laurel!
ReplyDeletelove it all...thanks for sharing..
ReplyDeleteWHoa! You really have a great style Laurel. So multi talented. We are lucky to have you join us each month!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to see all your work together...I really love the 9th grade one...so hard to make back to school grow up but you did it!
ReplyDeleteThese are all fabulous Laurel :) I love your style and would love to be able to do it, but just can't pull it off. Do you normally create a project with just one collection or do you mix? Maybe lack of product is my problem - I have heaps of stamps but very few embellishments.
ReplyDeleteYou should have heard me reading this points. First it was, "Oooooh!", then it was, "Aaaaah!" Then a, "Wow!" or two, followed by a, "There's just no way this girl does such beautiful work EVERY time." I loved every last one!
ReplyDeleteYour rest of the best is still dang amazing, Laurel! I think reading this post has helped me think of clustering in another way - I tended to think of those heavily flowered, romantic, vintage-y pages when I thought of clusters, but you cluster tags and other bits and bobs beautifully. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteWhat a visual feast Laurel. I think it's awesome that you found your style. I love that it's layered, detailed and gives the feeling that it was created with love. A winning combination for sure! :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome post, Laurel! Love to see so many of your beautiful pages in one sitting!

love that "good friend" layout-even though you said it's assymentrical, I find it very even! I'm still trying to figure out my style-I love lavers and layered clusters and kraft...one thing I can't do is crooked pictures LOL!!
