The sketch this week from The Scrappiest
For my layout I used my Studio Calico kit.
Another layout that was inspired by a song on my ipod. Whenever I hear this song I think of my dad and what he taught me. I am a lot like him (only the good things, hehehe) and the journaling that is tucked in the pocket tells all about it.
Here is what the journaling reads:Whenever I hear this song I think of dad. He taught me so many things without so much as a word. He is not a sensitive man, he is not one to take responsibilty for things (would much rather blame others), and he certainly does not wear his heart on his sleeve. But he is a hard worker, grew up on a farm and then was a farmer - putting his all into everything. He has a great determination to overcome obstacles and not let things get the better of him. He has a great appreciation for nature, "Look at that, isn't it beautiful?" we would often hear as we were on the road travelling. So how does this song remind me of him??? Well, I too am a hard worker, put my all into everything I do and I am not one who is overly sensitive or wears my heart on my sleeve. I am determined to do things myself, and I never like to let others see me when I'm done. As a kid I did not cry if I fell off my bike, horse or whatever I was a 'cowgirl' and I definitely just kept riding. I wanted to be tough so my dad would be proud of me. No matter how much it hurt when he whipped the softball at me during our catch sessions, I would not let him know it; I was determined to throw it back just as hard! I was a tomboy, I was determined to be the best at everything I did, and not let others see me fail.
I was... I am a cowgirl and cowgirls don't cry.
Thanks dad

Oh Laurel, what a tribute to your dad. The layout is fantastic, but your journaling just touches my heart. I doubt I will ever hear this song again without thinking of you and your dad!
Thanks so much for sharing!
